Cataract Care With Mt. Pleasant, PA Optometrist

You may be surprised with your diagnosis of cataracts. A large percentage of cataract patients discover they have the condition before they notice any symptoms. Now that you've been told you have cataracts, our optometrist, Dr. Papernick in Mt. Pleasant, PA, will be here to see you through the development and treatment of the condition.

What Are Cataracts?

The front of your eye is covered with a crystalline lens, which is where light passes through to allow you to see. Sometimes protein deposits begin to stick to the lens, causing your eyesight to be yellowish or cloudy. You may eventually feel as if you're looking through a thick fog or sheer curtain. Cataracts are among the most common eye problems for older people worldwide; up to 80 percent of all people will eventually develop cataracts during their lifetime. They can happen at any age, however. There are even babies born with them. But the most common type is age-related.

If you get regular eye examinations, it's likely our doctor found your cataracts before you noticed any symptoms. This is very common. Cataracts develop at a different pace for everyone. You may go months or years before you notice any change in your eyesight, or the cataracts may never progress any further in your lifetime. Whatever the progress, we at the H. Arnold Papernick, OD office are here to guide you through the process.

What Happens Now?

Dr. Papernick's  first concern for you is education. He wants to make sure that you know exactly how your condition may progress, and all the steps you'll need to take together to care for your eyes.

Once your cataracts have developed enough that they affect your daily life, cataract surgery is the answer. There are many fine cataract surgeons in our area. Our closest doctors are from Glaucoma-Cataract Consultants.  If you have your own preferences, we will be happy to make the proper arrangements, but first our doctor will patiently explain every detail that's going to happen. Once the surgery is over, we'll see you in the office after you have been released by the surgeon. and Dr. Papernick will follow up with providing you with eyeglasses  or contact lenses if needed.

If you have any questions about cataracts, call H. Arnold Papernick, OD at 724-547-5711 today.
